PRESIDENT GOODLUCK JONATHAN AND CORRUPTION

 Fuel subsidy

On Tuesday 11th December 2012, Ogunyemi Bukola was shocked when the President made a request to the National Assembly for a Supplementary sum of N161 billion as fuel subsidy payment for the remaining three weeks of the year. According to him, the original N881 billion budgeted for that purpose for the whole of the year had been exhausted.

He close with this, “In closing, I bring you the words of Mr. Enoch Kenawa, the Secretary of the Oil Marketers Association via the Punch, he said: “We have said it continuously in the past that the N888bn fuel subsidy budget for 2012 was inadequate but the finance minister has been proving stubborn and deceiving Nigerians that the amount would be enough. We have been in this business for a long time and we know what the trends are. I am happy that our position has been justified. We are calling on the National Assembly to quickly pass request of the President so that supply of products can increase. Once the money is approved, Nigerians are assured of a good holiday period to ensure adequate supply of fuel during Christmas.”  http://saharareporters.com/article/jonathan-metricks-fuel-subsidy-scam-ogunyemi-bukola

In the last seven years, Nigeria may have spent more than this year’s budget of N4.987 trillion on fuel subsidies, BusinessDay’s analysis of figures on fuel subsidies from 2006 to 2012, has shown. http://whitepagesng.com/blog/nigeria-spends-n4-9trn-in-7-years-on-fuel-subsidies/

The fuel subsidy payment was introduced as a policy into the Nigerian during the IBB administration of when our refineries failed due to no-maintenance. It was introduced to temporarily stabilize the price of petroleum product while the refineries underwent rehabilitation. It was meant to last for only six (6) months. Licenses to lift, import and market oil was issued to friends of the administration (IBB) who happened to be mainly from the Hause-Fulani stock of Northern Nigeria. They were the new oil bloc holders.

Fuel subsidy was the greatest corrupt institution to be established in Nigeria. Huge amount of money were always given to fuel marketer, whom with our money always create artificial fuel scarcity to prove relevant. This institution look like a well planed move to dupe our dear nation. Why should our leaders not be able to maintain our refineries or leave it in condition they met it, but prefer importing at a higher price and creating massive unemployment as a result? Our past leaders robbed us. With the loots built private refineries where they import fuel for us at exorbitant pric  es. All of them from ex-president Babangida to ex-president Obasanjo and no one called them corrupt. President Goodluck Jonathan came, instead of joining the looting ex-presidents decided to save Nigerian. He removed subsidy saved Nigeria from massive corruption and looting.

When he announced fuel subsidy removal many called he clueless, some predicated a collapse of his government, hike in fuel price, scarcity of fuel, etc many took to the street in protest as usual bought over by the looting group. But this man of vision matched on with his conviction. Today we are reaping the benefits of his stand on subsidy removal. Fuel scarcity has disappeared, fuel price stabilized unlike when there was subsidy, and no one remembers what this clueless president did here. He saved about N10.4 billion through removal of fuel subsidy.

Power sector privatization

Before Nigerians took over the rein of leadership from the Britain, the power generating company was doing so fine that Nigerian citizens where advised to always keep their lightening systems on to be able use up the excess generated power. Nigerians took over power and they couldn’t maintain our power sector. Under the leadership of our past leader Nigeria lost light.

The president Obasanjo led administration in a bid to change in the power sector succeeded in pulling wool over our eyes. Millions of millions of dollar which was supposed to be used to revamp our power sector was used to change the name of our power sector from NEPA to PHCN no Nigerian screamed day light robbery.

Our power sector was corruption personified and this same president Goodluck Jonathan brought his magic wane on it once again. Nigerians pay for power they never used under NEPA and PHCN. Before a Nigerian community will have themselves connected to the nation grid, the have to finance everything from scatter at the end the power companies will come collecting bills. Bills where issued arbitrarily hardly do you see any home with a meter. All these will be story soon, Nigerians will soon forget there was once black out as they have forgotten fuel subsidy. Thank God for the president Goodluck Jonathan led administration, which succeeded among all odd in privatizing our power sector. This is another blow on the monster call corruption. This privatization of our power sector has been applauded by all well meaning Nigerian as the great achievement to be achieved by a Nigerian president.
Nigerians
…… to be contined
